After the pandemic, travel was top of the agenda for most travellers. With increased travel withdrawal, travellers made it a priority and took the trips they couldn’t take over the pandemic. Some called this revenge travel.
Travellers went on trips at any price. Travellers wanted to go back to doing what they love to do – travel. They prioritised their mental health and wellbeing after a few years of uncertainty and made up for lost time.
Travel was back and it felt amazing.
In the rush, airlines and travel companies couldn’t keep up with the demand. Airlines were in recovery mode and not prepared for the travel stampede that happened.
With high demand came high prices. Now, as the industry gets back on its feet, ticket prices are lowering just at a time when travel volumes are slowing. The immediate burst of demand is cooling like in any boom and downturn.
Have we reached the end of the revenge travel trend? If we look at the data, it would suggest there is a travel slowdown happening in some countries as travellers are tightening their budgets because of the effect of higher inflation.
I suppose you could say travellers have got the ‘revenge’ out of their systems.
