Just like Rome, Florence has an abundance of historical monuments such as the Duomo, Galleria dell’ Accademia, Santa Maria del Fiore, Ponte Vecchio and more.
In the 15th century, the House of Medici, a wealthy Italian banking family, dominated Florence. The family financed the construction of Santa Maria del Fiore and sponsored artists such as Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and others.
The Florentine influence can be seen in the Renaissance art, architecture, philosophy, literature, science, technology, and music.
Food
Italian food is world famous. Eating in Italy is an enjoyable, social event. Get ready for carb overload!
The Italians cater for any dietary requirements or allergies. So if you are gluten or lactose intolerant you won’t miss out.
