Mirabell Gardens & Palace
Address: Mirabellplatz 4, 5020 Salzburg
Mirabell Gardens and Palace are UNESCO heritage listed sites. The name Mirabell is derived from the Italian mirabile “admirable” and bella “beautiful” and is the location for the “Do Re Mi” Sound of Music scene. Want to sing and dance around the Pegasus Fountain like in the movie? Here’s your chance.

Leopoldskron Palace
Address: Leopoldskronstraße 56-58, 5020 Salzburg
The Leopoldskron Palace was the home of the real Von Trapps and was occupied by the Nazis for a period of time during World War II. The Palace is now a hotel and if booking a suite, you’ll be staying inside this famous majestic building. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public for tours. This was my view from across the river.

Hellbrunn Palace and Gazebo
Remember the song “16 going on 17”? Here is the original glass pavilion in the movie. Also known as “The Sound of Music Gazebo”, a plaque commemorates Charmian Carr the actress who played Liesel. You can’t go inside the Gazebo anymore as a tourist tried to re-create the dancing scene and got injured.

The Hedge Maze & Gnome Park is another “Do Re Mi” location next to Mirabell Gardens. Feel like running through the Hedge tunnel or patting the gnomes on the head like in the The Sound of Music movie? Go for it! A must do activity.
